A brief overview - With today’s modern lasers, the process of tattoo removal has become almost completely non-invasive, much more effective and more comfortable. Complete laser tattoo removal requires several treatment sessions, typically spaced at least six to nine weeks apart. The number of sessions and spacing between treatments depends on various parameters, including the area of the body treated, skin type, health and age. Treating more frequently than six weeks increases the risk of adverse effects and does not necessarily increase the rate of fading. The laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then absorbed and removed by the body's immune system. At each session, some but not all of the tattoo pigment particles are effectively shattered, and the body removes the smallest fragments over the course of several weeks. Remaining large particles of tattoo pigment are then targeted at subsequent treatment sessions, causing further lightening.

Pain Relief

We use ice to numb the skin directly before and after the proceedure. Pain during the treatment however is relative and will depend on the individual’s pain threshold. Scarred clients or those menstruating usually feel stronger pain, while other clients refer such pain to a flick of a hot rubber band. Usually the procedure is over within minutes, sometimes seconds. You may return to work immediately. There is no down time for this procedure.

***You may use a light topical anaesthetic to reduce the pain during the treatment. Numb it is a great choice and is available from most major chemists (30gm for $25). It is always recommended you contact your GP for advise on its use and ensure you do not have any allergies to its active ingredients.

Not all clients are ideal candidates for laser tattoo removal. It’s important to recognise these relative contraindications and absolute contraindications to laser tattoo removal.
